Abstract : A method is suggested for making a particle count in a continuous stream of aerosol flowing in a direction parallel to the line of sight, with the particles traversing a zone of illumination in a set time. If the total observed number of the little flashes in the field of view made by particles crossing the zone of illumination is divided by the volume of the aerosol flowing over the field, the particle concentration is obtained.
