Abstract : The Leningrad University night-sky research equipment was automatized and converted to continuous recording. Measurements obtained in the summer and autumn of 1956 in the Elbruz region at heights of 2200 and 3900 m above sea level are presented. The diurnal variation curves for the 3900-m altitude are much smoother than the curves for 2200 m. The variations at 2200 m were caused by changes in the transparency of the lower atmospheric stratum.
