Abstract : It has been shown that if the protons are regarded as distinguishable particles the asymptotic form of the cross section for H(+) + H(1s) to H(1s) + H(+) in the (nonrelativistic) First Born and distorted wave approximations is Q(1s-1s) = 2Mpi(a-squared) /3m (E-cubed), where E is the energy of the incident proton in atomic units, M is its mass and m is the mass of the electron. A simple classical treatment of this problem is given.
