Abstract : Loss of adhesion and blistering of vinyl bottom systems has been a problem on the cathodically protected ships of the Royal Canadian Navy. This problem has been studied in the laboratory where it has been observed that on cathodically protected panels there is a progressive loss of adhesion originating at a coating break. An account is given of studies of the observed phenomena and experimental work to support some of the proposed explanations. (Author)
