Abstract : The paper presents factors pertinent to the development of a passive element of good reproducibility in the temperature region below 300K, with a positive thermopower in the liquid helium range. A silver-gallium alloy containing approximately 4.8% (at.) gallium was found to have properties desirable for use in thermocouples and also suitable for use as a thermoelectric standard material.
