Abstract : A progress report is given on the emission spectrum of the OH radical in the regions of the fundamental and first overtone vibration-rotation bands. The observations were made using a high resolution prism-grating vacuum spectrometer. The strong background which results from water vapor emission was eliminated by using two flames together with a phase-discrimination method of detection. A cooled lead sulphide detector was used to o0serve the fundamental band in the region from 2600/cm to 4000/cm. Lines from the 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 bands were observed. An uncooled lead sulphide detector was used to observe the first overtone band in the region from 5700/cm to 7200/cm. Lines from the 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 bands were observed. (Author)
