Abstract : In a definite combination the effects of radiation and orthostatic disturbance of the blood circulation are capable of mutally reinforcing the biological effect of each of these factors and bringing about the early occurrence of death. The load on the cardiovascular system from the orthostatic position, in addition to the action of the radiation, leads to its functional incapacitance with untimely and even unexpected death of radiated rabbits for which sublethal doses of radiation take on the significance of fatal doses which act so lethally that death sets in after 3 and 1/2 hours post-radiation.
