Abstract : Theoretical studies have been conducted to determine the feasibility of employing optical radar techniques for the remote measurement of atmospheric meteorological parameters. These studies show the feasibility of laser radar measurements of atmospheric density, wind velocity, and concentration of water vapor and other variable constituents. Methods of temperature measurement have been identified and are feasible with a foreseeable improvement in the state of the art. An experiment is proposed to characterize atmospheric aerosol size distribution by means of polychromatic laser illumination. (Author)
