Abstract : The properties of superconductive tank circuits are examined from a network standpoint. As specific example, the input impedance of a coaxial transmission line which is terminated by a capacitively coupled superconductive tank circuit is analyzed in detail as a function of frequency. The pronounced effect of the transmission line on the overall performance is demonstrated along with techniques to compensate for it. A set of equations is developed which can be used to determine the electrical parameters of the superconductive tank circuit and their variations with operating conditions from oscillator measurements. The design information required to build the test oscillator is also provided. The similarity between superconductive tank circuits and quartz crystal units is taken advantage of to illucidate the significance of some aspects of the analysis. (Author)
