Abstract : This study has attempted to evolve a basis for improved prediction of thunderstorm surface gusts in storms in Thailand. Following a survey of the related literature in which it was shown that the role of precipitation drag in thunderstorm downdraft is an important factor in determining the strong surface wind gusts beneath the base of the storm and in its nearby vicinity. This prediction is required for aeronautical operations in an area of high frequency of thunderstorms, which is obvious from the climatology of tropical regions. The area of interest to this investigator is Thailand (Indo-China Peninsula). Because no direct and detailed thunderstorm structure in that area have been made, the thunderstorm model of the Thunderstorm Project is adopted, arguing similar nature and climatology of storms.
