Abstract : Cw operation of the S-band amplifier using the extended Kino gun has indicated essential agreement with theory and with earlier pulsed operation results. The crossedfield noise parameters have been evaluated for a modified version of the abbreviated Kino gun. These results are compared with those obtained previously for the original abbreviated gun. The results indicate that the noise parameters are affected by the laminarity of the electron beam. The experimental investigations of crossed-field electron beam characteristics have been continued in the beam analyzer. These investigations have been carried out for the abbreviated Kino gun at lower values of d-c voltage and magnetic field. A modified aperture system has been designed for the evaluation of the electron beam characteristics at the exit plane of the gun. The preliminary results of the aperture investigations have been analyzed and future modifications are discussed. A closed-form solution for the emitting-sole device has been obtained using a hard-kernel-bunch approximation and assuming small D. A slot-coupled vane structure has been designed for use as the slow-wave circuit in the emitting-sole device. (Author)
