Abstract : Investigations were made to determine the most economical and practical means for establishing a controlled electromagnetic environment for measuring near-field radiated and susceptibility interference characteristics of electronic equipments and to develop techniques for measuring near-field radiated and susceptibility interference characteristics of electronic equipments in the above controlled electromagnetic environment which can be correlated with 'open-field' measurements. Two techniques, the Hooded Antenna Technique and a Paraboloidal-Section Shaped Enclosure, show considerable promise as a means of obtaining the desired controlled environment. Descriptions and evaluations of these techniques are discussed in detail. A model of a conventional shielded enclosure was evaluated in considerable detail to provide a reference for evaluating the hooded antenna technique and the paraboloidal-section enclosure. The model enclosure was also utilized to evaluate absorbing materials and the placement of absorbing materials in a conventional shielded enclosure. A description of the antenna coupling technique utilized in these evaluations, as well as the data resulting from these evaluations are discussed.
