Abstract : The mechanism of the physiological control of biotin synthesis in Escherichia coli by exogenous biotin has been studied under conditions where enzyme synthesis was inhibited by chloramphenicol or ultraviolet irradiation. The results of such studies suggest that the regulation of biotin synthesis occurs via repression rather than feedback. The experimental findings are discussed in relation to the control of vitamin and amino acid biosynthesis. (Author)
