Abstract : The purpose of this note is to demonstrate that the spin-parity quantum numbers of 1405 mev Y0 provide a test of the reciprocal bootstrap hypothesis. It is pointed out that p1/2 is a better spin-parity assignment for Y0 than is s 1/2, but if so, then the reciprocal bootstrap hypothesis must be either abandoned or substantially modified. A p3/2 resonance is also considered, and an approach to the problem is suggested through the study of the strong decay Y1 (1660) to & + pion + pion. Consideration is also given to the proposition that the reciprocal bootstrap hypothesis can work in Schwinger's W3 model. (Author)
