Abstract : A series of tests were conducted to determine the effect of solution temperature on the mechanical properties and microstructure of commercial-grade titanium alloy 6A1-6V-2Sn. The solution temperature was varied from 1500 F to 2200 F. The solution time, aging time, and temperature were held constant. It is concluded that optimum strength-ductility-toughness combinations are obtained at solution temperatures of 1575 F to 1600 F. Lower solution temperatures decrease the tensile and yield strengths, and higher solution temperatures show a sharp decrease in ductility and impact strength. The beta transus temperature is 1720 F.
