Abstract : Two-dimensional flow of a conducting gas interacting weakly with an external inhomogeneous magnetic field is considered. It is proved that for flow over an insulating wall, the total drag force is reduced by the Hall effect, and the total transverse force is zero. General expressions for the Hall current and the induced transversal flow are obtained for the case of flow with small Hall parameter over an infinite insulating plane. Examples are given for the dipole magnetic field. An inversion of the transversal flow, varying with the dipole orientation, is found. This situation also suggests a transversal deflection of the flow behind a magnetized body in the flow of a plasma. (Author)
