Abstract : An experimental investigation was made of the reduction of frictional losses in turbulent flows of distilled water through rough tubes by dilute additives of polyethylenoxide of molecular weight 4,000,000. Remarkable reduction of the turbulent energy losses were obtained for 0.002-0.006% concentration of additive in the flow, even to values lower than for smooth turbulent flows. (Author)
