Abstract : The major accomplishments of the contract program were: (1) An extensive study of molecular techniques for the fabrication of X and Y-amplifiers for peripheral driver circuitry of solid state display systems. (2) The development of a planar all-diffused process used in the final amplifier fabrication which accomplished all of the requirements of satisfactory process control, yield, suitability for mass production and economy, as well as the obvious requirements of meeting electrical specifications. (3) The design and development of a unique switch-field effect resistor circuit which simplified thermal considerations, allowed higher density packaging, and reduced power supply requirements. (4) Development of a high density packaging scheme allowing 16 amplifiers to be packaged in one linear inch modules which could be stacked end to end in an actual display system environment. The final phase of the program was concerned with an investigation of possible additional applications of the pulse amplifier, or a modification of the amplifier, to NIXIE driver requirements. It was concluded that the pulse amplifier is capable of driving miniature NIXIE tubes having current requirements on the order of one milliampere. Furthermore, a slightly modified pulse amplifier was developed which is capable of driving the complete line of NIXIE tubes and alpha-numerics and is compatible with monolithic microcircuit fabrication techniques.
