Abstract : Some formulas for the evaluation of nuclear counting experiments with regard to their statistical accuracy are developed. Three types of measurements are considered: (1) simple counting, (2) location measurements, (3) intensity distribution measurements. The relation of the statistical uncertainty to other sources of error is discussed briefly, leading to the matching principle. Examples are drawn mainly from the field of inelastic scattering of thermal neutrons. (Author)
