Abstract : Parachute drogue measurements in the Atlantic Equatorial Undercurrent during February, March and April 1963 between 25 degrees and 35W at depths between 75 and 200 meters show velocities towards the east of up to 75 cm/sec. Surface currents during this period varied between 60 cm/sec towards the south-west to 60 cm/sec towards the east. This shift in direction of the surface flow may be related to the decrease in wind stress as the inter-tropical convergence moves through the area. (Author)
