Abstract : The parameters of the log normal distribution are used to show the contributions to the rainfall rate of the number of drops, the width of the distribution, and the mode of the distribution. The progress of a statistical study of short period rainfall rates is reported. Drop break-up is investigated as an explanation for the large increase in the number of small drops for high rainfall rates in Miami. It is found to be an inadequate explanation. Some preliminary results of a study to determine an adequate sample size for drop-size studies are reported. (Author)
