Abstract : Main results of boundary migration studies in polycrystalline materials are delineated. The effect of orientation and boundary structure factors and their interdependence with impurity effects are considered. Investigations aimed at the quantitative understanding of the drastic effect dissolved impurities have on boundary migration are examined. Results of these investigations are compared with the predictions of migration rate theories designed to account quantitatively for the impurity effect. (Author)
