Abstract : A procedure is given by which the vibration of systems containing inelastic elements which exhibit interface slippage or plastic yielding may be visualized and through which estimates of average amplitudes of vibrations as well as average rates of accumulation of plastic strain may be found. The method involves power balances and is most easily applied in the case of broad band excitation. The type of computations required are illustrated by means of a single degree of freedom example and two degree of freedom example systems are shown to illustrate the extension of the procedure to multi degree of freedom problems.
