Abstract : The problem of unstable combustion in solid propellant rockets is reviewed, with special emphasis on the status of theory and, where possible, the comparison between theory and experiment. General topics include the general nature of the problem; linear theory of acoustic response of burning propellants; and the status of finite amplitude theory.
