Abstract : The steady state flow is considered with or without the magnetic field. Special attention is given to the rate of approach of the flow to the Hartmann-Poiseuille patterns downstream. In general the approach to the limiting pattern is exponential. The exponents are found to fall into two classes, one depending chiefly on the Reynolds number and Hartmann number, and the other on the magnetic Reynolds number and Hartmann number. (Author)
