Abstract : The aim and research goals of this project was that of determining the general polymorphism and behavior of the fusion curve of various metallic elements at high pressures and high temperatures. This aim was not simply that of obtaining data but there was the hope of finding some general rules that describe the melting process of metals and sequency of polymorphic behaviors. This has been more successful than anticipated. It was shown in a number of papers that all the Group IV elements and the Group III-V elements have essentially identical phase diagrams. Furthermore, this research has shown by analyzing data obtained that the Simon fusion curve does not hold and that a very simple melting relationship (d delta V/V sub o)/dT=K) does hold.
