Abstract : A series of experiments are reported in which attempts are made to study the role of stimulus variables that may affect the magnitude of the constant error. The results indicate that in addition to bias effects that cannot rightly be ascribed to the stimulus, there are certain forms of potential sequential biases that may or may not be stimulus induced. The classical experiment to investigate the phenomenon is redesigned, and some preliminary results are presented to show that the technique is feasible. (Author)
