Abstract : The conformal gear was studied as a means of improving helicopter final reduction drives. By eliminating certain inherent limitations of the involute gear, the developed conformal tooth form has the potential of bettering current power-to-weight ratios. An analytical and experimental effort was conducted on carburized and ground conformal gears.
