Abstract : A radio survey of 21 cm continuum emission in 111 clusters of galaxies within a distance of 230 mpc contained in Abell's catalogue has been performed with the Owens Valley twin-element interferometer. 43% have radio emission greater than 0.2 flux units. Their radio luminosities are compared to the luminosity function of Longair, with the conclusion that a large fraction of the strong radio emitters are in Abell type clusters. The statistical properties of the sample indicates a possible correlation of detection probability with cluster richness. The radio structures and optical identifications suggest the emission is associated with the brightest cluster member or members, which have, in several cases, been classified as the D galaxy of Morgan.
