Abstract : A total of thirteen representative intra-rare-earth binary systems were studied to determine the criteria of formation and the characteristics of the unusual samarium-type structure formed in these alloy systems. The techniques used in the studies included metallography, x-ray diffraction analysis, hardness, thermal analysis, resistivity, dilatometry, density, electron-beam microprobe analysis, and liquid-metal-solution calorimetry.
