Abstract : The report describes the development of an alternate form (Form SB-3) to the current Forms SB-1 and -2 of the Short Basic Test Battery (SBTB), in which the tests are one-half to two-thirds the length of those in the current form of the Basic Test Battery (BTB). The method used in developing norms and the results of correlational analysis ensure that the newly-developed tests in Form SB-3 of the SBTB are sufficiently reliable and predictive of the scores of enlisted applicants on the corresponding tests of the BTB itself. The results further indicated that Form SB-3 tests are sufficiently equivalent to their Forms SB-1 and -2 counterparts in these and other essentials to warrant use of the three SBTB forms, if desired, as interchangeable instruments in the preliminary classification of enlisted applicants.
