Abstract : This report is concerned with the axisymmetric buckling of an orthotropic circular plate having variable thickness. The thickness varies in the radial direction and the plate is subjected to a uniform edge compression. The governing equation for the stress distribution due tois edge compression is derived and solved in terms of a power series in the radial coordinate. With the use of this stress distribution, the equation governing the buckling of the plate is derived. It is solved by Galerkin's method for a clamped plate as well as for a simply-supported plate. Values of the buckling loads thus obtained for a uniform thickness plate agree well with existing results. (Author)
