Abstract : Experimental studies have been conducted utilizing a thermally tuned ruby laser radar to study the vertical profile of water vapor systems. Examples of thermal scans of the 6942.16A and 6942.38A water vapor lines are presented. Equipment has been assembled to study at high resolution (.02/cm) the line shape and strength of these lines. An engineering computation has been made of the temperature distribution within the ruby rod resulting from the energy absorbed from the pumping lamp. (Author)
