Abstract : A preliminary conceptual design is presented of a system which simulates the salinity and temperature characteristics of an ocean water environment for testing and evaluation of oceanographic instrumentation. The most notable feature of the system is a high degree of long-term temperature stability in a relatively large fluid volume. Detailed requirements for the system are developed, major machinery and control system components are suggested, a tentative system layout is presented, and modes of operation are dlineated. Some of the major problems anticipated are discussed. Proposed procurement specifications for the complete system are appended. (Author)
