Abstract : The conditions required to obtain maximum output from a ruby laser as a function of pumping conditions was investigated experimentally for several values of the interferometer base. At minimum distance, the output increases with increased pumping, but at greater distances the output levels off and at still greater distances, it undergoes a maximum, all at the same pumping power. A mechanism is proposed to account for these effects. (Author)
