Abstract : The report considers some of the concepts and mathematics of reliability engineering having potential application to the maintenance of a naval steam propulsion plant. In particular, it raises the question as to whether more scheduling of part renewals might be advantageous from the standpoint of long-term cost and effectiveness. It is planned to improve continually on the assumptions and mathematics used herein as more definitive operational data become available. (Author)
