Abstract : ICES-SEPOL (Soil Engineering Problem-Oriented Computer Language) is a subsystem of ICES I which is designed to aid civil engineers in the calculation of predicted manitudes and progress of settlement for shallow foundations. The system is of use for the design of buildings, earth dams, highway embankments and other foundations which cause spread loadings at or near the surface of the soil. ICES-SEPOL I consists of (1) a command-structured problem-oriented language for the description of the problem and the specification of the procedures to be performed in solving the problem and (2) a set of processing routines for performing the computations specified by the engineer in the commands. ICES-SEPOL I is confined to states of stress in a semi-infinite solid due to vertical surface loads. (Author)
