Abstract : For fields with H<70 gauss the brightness of flocculi increase in the mean with the increase in field strength. Separate formations show that this relation is very close. The magnetic field determines the form of the flocculi. The lines of equal brightness closely follow isogausses. For fields with H>70 gauss the brightness of the flocculi decreases with increasing field strength. As a result the formations acquire a ring-like structure, at times of irregular form, however the centers of the rings - their darkest parts - coincide with the maximum value of field strength. Flocculi surrounding sunspots also have a ring-like form. The study of the change of the form of flocculi and the magnetic field with time showed that the magnetic field influences the formation of flocculi. The crowding and de-crowding of magnetic lines of force makes the flocculi correspondingly more compact or diffuse. The appearance of a weak field leads to the appearance of a flocculus. In regions where flares originate the brightness of chromospheric formations does not follow the above enumerated regularities on the day of the flare. There are two mechanisms of flocculi formation. The first is connected with the development of rapid processes: flares and possibly moustaches. In this case the flocculus appears as the result of an after-flaring luminescence and the propagation of a shock wave. (Author)
