Abstract : The report concerns the problems inherent in toothache management aboard an FBM submarine (these submarines include a medical officer, but no dental officer of dental corpsman in the crew). A basic outline of the most practical solutions for some of these problems is presented. This includes: Problems of patient placement and arrangements for adequate lighting for dental examination; then the diagnosis of toothache; and its treatment (isolation and exclusion of moisture from the field of operation, the minimum set of instruments required, the restorative materials, conservative medical management, and operative procedure, should that become necessary.) This material is intended to supplement the instruction given in the dental section of the course in the School of Submarine Medicine for prospective submarine medical officers. (Author)
