Abstract : Three male university students were placed in a group situation in which the subjects (Ss) earned points by responding on a switch in alliance with another member of the group. The matrix value of each player was changed from a matrix of equality (A = B = C) to several pay-off matrices of inequality (A < (B + C)), (A > B > C), (A > (B + C)). It was found that the Ss pursued a strategy in which the group earning was kept maximal and, at the same time, individual work was kept minimal. At the end of each session the day's earnings were split equally among the three players. (Author)
