Abstract : Soluble novolac resins were prepared by means of a snythetic scheme devised to yield double chain novolac resins from polyhydric polynuclear phenols. The bisphenols were the only polyhydric phenols which gave soluble polymers. Further work will be needed to determine whether the polymers obtained are ordered networks or soluble micro gels.
