Abstract : Certain fire control problems lead to a discussion of a linear parabolic differential equation of the second order, namely the Fokker-Planck differential equation, and the von Smoluchowski integral equation. This report contains a translation of relevant portions of 'Die Differential - und Integral-gleichungen der Mechanik und Physik,' by Frank and von Mises. The interrelation of the theories of heat conduction, diffusion, statistics is shown.
