Abstract : A machine routine is given for rapidly computing important normal shock properties as a function of free stream Mach numbers. This routine may be used to compute the required properties for a sequence of Mach numbers. Hence, it is now possible to prepare tables to a greater accuracy and detail than heretofore available. In particular, normal shock wave data may be obtained for shock tubes and enclosed ranges which contain gases with a ratio gamma of specific heats varying in a prescribed range. The scaling of the routine is such that it is applicable to any combination of Mach numbers and specific heats that lie in the range 1.000 001 < or = M sub 1 < or 5, and 1.134 < or = gamma < 2.0.
