Abstract : Several possible sets of sensitivity functions are defined both in the frequency domain and state space representation of the system. These functions relate 'small' changes in system parameters, that inevitably occur in the assembly of the operation of a plant, to the characteristic roots of the system or some measures of system performance. The linear or approximately linear dynamical system is specially the object of the investigation. A new approach for the analysis of system behavior when subjected to parameter variations is indicated. The necessary and sufficient conditions for a totally parameter invariant response in the presence of small but arbitary parameter changes are derived. Finally, the new approach of analysis is applied to a practical problem of interest, and a possible synthesis procedure is indicated for the reduction of sensitivity to parameter changes. (Author)
