Abstract : Explicit solution of the initial value problem for an acoustical disturbance has been given in two dimensions by Diaz and Landshoff, for times t < 0, besides t > or = 0. The present report extends the results to three dimensions, using a different method to construct the solution. The two dimensional solution is deduced by Hadamard's method of descent. The conditions imposed on the initial data to insure the existence and uniqueness of the solution are weaker than those of Diaz and Landshoff. (Author)
