Abstract : Pitot pressure and recovery temperature profiles are measured at various distances downstream behind a two-dimensional blunt base in the turbulent near wake at Mach numbers 2.25 and 3.5. These results are used for the determination of total and static pressure profiles and Mach number distributions in the near wake. The flow structure of the near wake is also obtained by shadow and Schleiren photographs. A flow visualization technique using oil streaks which are obtained from oil film deposited on the model surfaces and carried into the wake flow was found useful. All these results are integrated to obtain a description of the various intricate physical phenomena observed in the two dimensional near wake flow. (Author)
