Abstract : The study was conducted to investigate the utility of the concept of predictor displays for orbital rendezvous. The display plane was the plane of the orbit (X-Y plane). The display presented the relative position of the target and the interceptor and the predicted path of the interceptor relative to the target. This display was compared with an alternate display identical in all respects except that no predicted path was presented. Eight subjects were used in a counterbalanced 'transfer of training' experimental design. The results indicated that the predictor display significantly improved operator performance of rendezvous as indicated by lower fuel consumption, less variability in fuel consumption and smoother orbital paths.
