Abstract : It was assumed that training emphasizing cultural self-awareness as well as the cultural predispositions of members of other cultures would induce an attitude of cultural relativity and counteract attitudes of American cultural superiority that might exist among the trainees. The development of cultural self-understanding should also facilitate understanding of the predispositions of members of other cultures, and should provide a basis of better morale for Americans working overseas. The American should develop an appreciation for typical American predispositions that facilitate working overseas, and for those that interfere. Finally, mastery of dimensional concepts used for summarizing the American's cultural self should provide bridges for observing and understanding other's predispositions and behavior.
