Abstract : The object of the investigation was to determine the cause and nature of excessive sedimentation found in brake fluids after testing and operation. Analysis showed this sediment to be essentially zinc stearate which had been formed from the reaction of zinc oxide and stearic acid leached from the rubber cups. The implications and possible remedies of this problem are discussed. (Author)
