Abstract : Stimulation of the mid-brain was accomplished in order to demonstrate the vagal inhibitory effects on the stomach movements and to investigate the origins of the vagal inhibitory response of the stomach in the mid-brain. More than 56 landmarks which produced the remarkable inhibition of the stomach movements were obtained in the mid-brain. The inhibitory responses were produced in each level. The inhibition of stomach was produced after a few seconds latency, the peristaltic movements were decreased and sometimes abolished completely, and tone of the stomach also decreased. The inhibition persisted for a few minute after the end of stimulation. The responses of the stomach in the pons were the same responses which were obtained in the medulla oblongata. (Author)
